Noise from under truck - FYI

Hello all. I wanted to tell you all about a recent problem I had. I have a 2005 Silverado Z71 Crew Cab with 11,000 miles on it. I had my windows down on a nice spring day the other day and when driving next to a building in a parking lot I heard a noise coming out from under my truck. Initially it sounded like a lightly grinding brake pad. You could hear it going about 10 mph with or without the brakes applied. After having a friend listen to it, it sounded more like it was coming from under the truck than from the front brakes. Anyway, I took it to the dealer and they replaced the front brake pads and turned the rotors. When leaving the dealer I drove it around their lot and it still had the same noise. I took it back and told them it still wasn't fixed. They ended up having to put a mechanic underneath the truck on a rolling cart moving throughout the garage to discover where the sound was coming from. Finally, they replaced the front differential gasket and lubed it up and that fixed it.

 

I wanted to post this out here in case anyone ever has a similar problem.
