Coolant leak

I have a 88 z71 step side with the 5.7liter with 5speed transmission. I have a coolant leak that I can not find. The coolant runs from the back of the motor down the transmission. I checked all hoses and checked the coolant port on the top of the intake. Any help will be helpfull. Thanks......

Sounds like possible intake gasket leak.

I'd bet $10 that it's the heater hose fitting...The one that will snap off as soon as you put a wrench on it.

 

It goes into the top of the intake manifold on the passenger side, near the back of the motor.

 

I had a heck of a time tracking that one down the first time, and I've seen it on at least a dozen trucks.

Nope... Already checked that out. No leak or sign of leak

What is the easiest and most practical way to check the intake?

Freeze plug behind the transmission?

Use an inspection mirror and look at the intake and heads at the rear of the engine, if you dont see anything there, then I would also suspect the freeze plug hidden by the tranny bell housing.

I will check with a mirror if I can find one. I am not really looking forward to removing the intake if it comes down to that
