Question about headers

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have a 2006 Chevy silverado Z71 with a 5.3 H.O. and was wondering what would be the best kind of headers to put on my truck

would all of them pass emissions and such

I believe longtubes are legal everywhere but california, but I've been wrong before. Also, if you buy longtubes, which I would definitely recommend over shorties, I've heard that the O2 sensors may not work properly because they're not warming up enough or something... I'm not exactly sure on why they don't work properly, but I think its something like that. Anyway, a lot of guys use O2 sensors from corvettes to remedy that.

And while we're on headers, anyone ever use stainless works headers? Any feedback on those?

I believe all Long tubes are legal in PA but i am not sure.

SkyZ71 - I put headers on a friend of mine's 95 305 and they sounded really good and gave him some additional low end umph

Awesome, now what if i ran them through a single exit exhaust, i plan on putting on either magna flow or flowmaster, but with single exit, will they be as effective as with true dual exhaust? Thanks! :D

It will be more effective believe it or not. And I would definitely go with the magnaflow.

yes much more effective, gives it some backpressure. and definitley magnaflow. you won't regret it

Awesome, thanks for the advice from both of you. That's also great news for me because A.) I can keep it looking stock, and B.) it'll be cheaper than true dual!! Also, it'll be an easier install. Thaks for the help guys!! :D

that Dynatech system bolts up to the stock flanges if you so desire so that you can keep the stock exhaust and just do a muffler replacement and save a few hundred bucks and it includes Cats and a Y Pipe

if u had exhaust on there would u have to cut the exhaust shorter to make room for the long tube headers or do they bolt up at the same length as the stock ones?

Not with the Dynomaxx. The kit has a shorter Y pipe to compensate for the long tubes. That would be the kit for me, but no cash!

Yes, you do not want shorter tube header so make adjustments in pipes below them. Also I would sugest 2 1/2 inch collecters for best street performance and mid range power. Large collectors can make it "soggier" at lower RPM's
