Change Engin Oil Light

This past weekend the change engine oil light started comming on in my truck. It only stays on for maybe 1-2mins then goes off. The truck only has 5200 miles and I just had the oil changed at 3100 miles.

 

Any ideas?

One dumb question (sorry) but did you reset the oil change light after you changed the oil?

 

I had the oil light come on (awhile ago) only after like 2200 miles and i had reset the light.  I went ahead and changed the oil to be on the safe side.  Oil still looked new

 

Maybe the computer really didnt reset itself?

You just need to reset the light:

How to reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL Message on your GM truck.

 

1. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off (do not start the truck).

2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three (3) times within five (5) seconds.

 

If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message flashes for five seconds, the system is reset.

 

This information is readily available in your GM Owners Manual.

I changed my oil at exactly 3k and reset the oil light.  I had to reset it when it came on at 3.5k.  I know that the Mobil 1 didn't get that dirty in 500 miles.

I'm not exactly sure on the logic that sets that light off. I have heard several reasons to that effect. The one I am inclined to beleive is the hour meter in the PCM. Mine will go off gennerally every 5000 to 6000 miles because 90% of my driving time is highway driving.

I decided to go by the message center instead of every 3000 miles.  I know that the Moble 1 I use isn't going to break up in 3000 miles, I also use a K&N oil filter.   Change Oil light usually comes on every 3500 to 4000 miles.
