Which is "better?"

I am having a debate with a friend on which is better for a trucks transmission(long story about why we are debating this though haha). Which one do you think is "better" for a tranny? I am assuming that it is best to shift between gears when completely stopped and with no gas pedal usage. But I am just curious, let me know what you guys think.

 

A. Shifting to drive or reverse or vice versa while moving about 5 MPH

 

OR

 

B. Shifting to drive or reverse or vice verse or into any gear while stopped, but pushing the gas pedal (1500 RPM range) while it is trying to shift, so it clunks in when it finally engages (hopefully I described this one well enough, so you can understand what I am talking about)

hey IMO i try to put it into reverse while at a complete stop...it makes me feel wierd if i hear a clunk or anything...sorry not sure if i helped much

Both aren't good at all. You are supposed to come to a complete stop before shifting out of drive or reverse. However, I would say the slight neutral drop would do less damage because I'm assuming your at a stop and not rolling. By the sudden change of motion in the tranny your just asking to tear it up. My buddy has destroyed two transmissions because of same scenerio.
