Hey I need to change out my shift sensor on my 1999 automatic silverado. Where is it located on the transmission? Shifts hard into first and second after driving about twenty miles. It will stop temporarily if I shut the truck off then turn it back on????? Please help!!!!!

Problem might actually be caused by a slipping clutch which causes the trans to raise fluid pressure, and then the high pressure causes hard shifts.

Even if before it shifts hard there is no sign of transmission slippage?

The lock-up torque converter might be the clutch that is slipping. But during 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, the torque converter is unlocked so it's slipping clutch wouldn't be part of the "feel" of the trans during those shifts.

I'm just saying that if your TC clutch is failing, it will cause the control module to raise the fluid pressure, and the pressure will stay high until you shut off the truck. So after it raises the line pressure, and you do some stops and starts, you'll feel that higher line pressure as firmer 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
