Just had mine done. Got the steering wheel off ebay and bought the clockspring harness from an GM supplier(much better price then what the dealer was offering.) Took the truck and parts to the dealer and for less than $200 had them install everything and reprogram the computer.

I want to do this too. Jennings Chevrolet in Chicago area offers brand new leather wrapped steering wheels with DIC buttons for $ 160 plus shipping (retail over $ 240). You can find their phone number on eBay - search under "2006 Silverado fog lamps". Better than trying to get a used one on eBay or anywhere else, unless you get it for 1/2 price of the new one. They also give at least 30% discounts on all GM parts, which is a lot better than stealerships in my area, who will not budge from the list price, and one crooked local stealer charges 10% over retail on every part they sell.

 

How much is the clockspring harness?

 

And is it true that special codes are require for programming?

The dealer quoted me $900 for the steering wheel. Got it off ebay for $140.00. The clockspring harness lists for $300.00 but you can get it for around $200.00 by shopping around and the part # is 26101828 COIL KIT. You will need to have the GM dealer reprogam your computer. The tech. needs to call in and get authorizations codes to program in to the PCM.

Come on, that is nonsense. As I said, I called Jennings Chevrolet, and was quoted $ 160 and change for a brand new leather wrapped steering wheel with DIC buttons for an '06 Silverado (retail = $ 240). It is possible that the $ 900 retail quote was for the steering wheel WITH the airbag.

Sweett I would like to add the DIC/wheel controls to my wifes 05 Trailblazer EXT I will be calling them to see what it will cost for the wheel and the clock spring.

Ask for parts. I spoke with Jim Norman, who gave me the prices over the phone. Mention to him that you saw their products on eBay.

 

I am not drumming up business for these people as I only found about them through eBay, but their prices are so far the best I have seen, and that is enough to convince me. Plus they were pleasant to deal with. They are also a regular Chevy dealership.
