upper console conversion?

I have a 2001 Jimmy with the TEMP/COMPASS in the upper console. What all would be envolved with putting the display that shows the TRIP/FUEL in.

 

Could you just put that display in from another vehicle, or is there some code that would need turned on. Is there some kind of sending unit or something that my Jimmy will also need from another vehicle to make it work?

It's a different wirng harness, not as easy as you might expect. If you got the harness out of the donor vehicle (it plugs in inside the dash near the base of the windshield, good luck), you SHOULD be able to swap the overhead harness and just have it work. I installed the full trip computer setup with an aftermarket harness, hand-built by a guy on another site, and had it working perfectly with no extra programming so it's definately possible.
