Predator Programmer

Recommended Posts

Hey yall. I just got the predator programmer yesturday. I have some questions though. Especailly about adjusting the tranny shift points as well as some of the other perameters. Another thing that I am unsure of is in the manual, it says to run premium fuel with the tune. Well I always run 89 cause its the cheapest around here. Is there a way to change the settings so I don't have to run 91/93 or am I stuck running that in my truck now? Any other info, pointers, tips help, donations feed back directions or anything else would be helpful :happysad:

I am running that programmer. I don't know about the shift points, because I have never messed with that yet.

As far as the premium fuel, I run the performance tune with 87 octane fuel and don't have any problems. I would say run it and if it starts to knock then either run premium fuel or run the 87 octane tune.

Hope this helps

There is a whole bunch you can do with the predator. Yes you can run 89 with the performance tune. After loading the tune go to diagnostics and then to live readings. watch the sprk knock. If the computor is detecting any go to adjust parameters and remove some timing. If it isn't detecting knock add some timing. Also watch your long term fuel trims. You must drive a bit to get a base line. Preferablly highway miles. Adust fuel + or- to get as close to 0 as possible. -% means the pcm is removing a percentage of fuel to get close to stichometry(or however it's spelled. + means it is adding fuel. Lean is bad. try to keep it at a small negative %ages. after a couple min on the higway. As far as shift adj. That's a personal prefernce. Keep the shift times short (less slipage) and adj firmness to your liking. It'll really firm them it up so be careful. Best thing is at anytime if you don't like you can reinstall the stock, 87 or performance tune and it resets the parameters. Here's a neet thing though. After you adjust the trans it stays the same if you change tunes. Same with the fuel and timing if ya have 15% timing added and switch to the 87 tune it'll still have 15% timing added.

The only way to learn is mess with it. Always write down what you did everytime. I keep a log book. Makes it real easy to undo rather than start over. Also on the tq management it is either off or on. This is based off my experence on an 03

When I was looking through the manual, I didn't see it say anything about the TM. I know that you can remove it. How do I go about adjusting that?

Thanks again

I only have experience with the 03-up programmer. On mine if you scroll down to the bottom in adj parameters It asks about tq managment. It is either on or off on mine. Newer trucks have more options. I cannot say for sure what your 01(I assume) will do.

Thanks for the help. I just installed the tune and if I hit the gas at about 40 MPH is pings real good. I assume I need to adjust the timeing and advance it, correct? I also notice that it didnt firm the shifts up by just adjusting the performance tune. I'm wondering if there is much of a difference between the 99-02 and the 03 and news.

Thanks

Ok. Does yours have the Power Enrichment heading? I'm trying to figure out what that is. I believe that is rich or lean. When I click that heading it says FUEL AT W.O.T. One other thing. I just put 92 octane in it. Should I keep timing where it is at now? It doesn't knock anyweres near as much and then when I switch back to 89 adjust the timing? I really appreciate all your help. If you were closer Id buy ya a drink :happysad:

Does anyone happen to know what hte Power Enrichment feature does? Also when adjusting the tranny, what is the best way to adjust the firmness? Up the pressure?

Mine has a fuel slope adjustment that adds much more fuel for forced induction. I would imagine that is what your power enrichment is. Mine wouldn't even run with more than 2%, and it belched black smoke(gas) like crazy.

On the tranny you want to decrease shift time and increase pressure until it's to your likeing. I would decrease shift time all the way then adjust pressure. Don't forget to adjust tow haul mode shifting.(if yours allows) Mine would rattle your teeth in tow haul mode. Had to decrease pressure to fix it.

oh and on the pinging. ANY is bad. Adjust the timing down a bit.

then go for a drive and watch knock sensor and LTFT's You may need to increase or decrease fuel to get it as close to zero as possible or a slight negative

The older style Preditor only had 1 performance tune, not the 87 and 91 octane tunes. It was only 91. Fueling and timing adjustments are only at WOT.

I don't know if they changed the ones for the older models like the one I have from my 02 to include all the features (torque management, idle speed, etc.) of the 05 Preditor I have seen.

Well now I'm a little disapointed. I was under the impression that the Predator would remove the TM. Hell, even the ebay add said that I could remove it. Maybe I ought to email the company that I bought it from and see what they have to say. Here is a link to the auction.

I have tried to contact Diablosports tech service but so far no luck.

I guess with the timing having to be adjusted only at WOT I can adjust it so I don't have to run premium. That would be nice.

I looked all over the box and tuner and I can not find a model number of mine. When powered up it Version 1.03. In options, about tool, mine is 1.03 software and 1.00 hardware. Mine was made in 9-02.

Sounds like you got an older version, like mine. Looking at Diablosports site, they list the U7198 for the 99-02 with all the new features. Check and see which one you have.
