OK Time for a really dumb noob question

My better half has an 05 Silverado 1500 crew cab 2wd with a 5.3. In the year that she has had it she has put 35,000 mile on in and I decided that it would be a good time to go a head and change the fuel filter when I changed the oil this past sunday. However, I can't locate the filter anywhere. So the question is where's the filter located?

Along the frame rail, drivers side in the middle.

I think in 2004 they moved it somewhere else. My father has a 2004 Sierra and the filter isn't on the rail, in my 2003 Sierra it is on the rail.

Looked there, I did have an 02 GMC but in the 05 the tank is on the drivreside in the middle. I also looked in the manual and it doesn't say anything about the fuel filter in the maintance section so I don't know.

I think the non-flex fuel (Gas only) models have a filter inside the tank.

It is a "gas only" truck. If it's in the tank does that mean you can't replace it or is it something that has to be done at the dealership?

On my fathers 2004 Sierra 1500 EC/SB Z71 w/4.8L it is not on the frame rail.

Starting with the 2004 model year the fuel filter is located inside the fuel tank as an integral part of the pump/sender assembly.

So, leave the *&^% filter alone and stay away from cheap gas stations.

I went to the dealership yesterday afternoon and they said it's an in-the-tank non-replaceable unit. Funny thing is the local carquest sold me a filter last Friday....

Yep,No filter on the gas trucks in '05,And the only '04's that have external fuel filters are the trucks with the "Flex-Fuel" engine or the 4.3-V6.
