NewfZ Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 I was wondering how a 5.3L handles cutouts? I'm told by various people it won't affect the engine at all, then I got friends saying it'll mess stuff up. Anyone got expierence with exhaust cutouts on the 5.3L? Offtopic: Were 3 pages from 666 pages. Oooo evil.

I didn't even notice that.

My buddy tells me they're good on old carb'ed cars, but not so much on newer engines. But I got friends who know people who got em on a new Dodge Ram and KB Cobra. So they can't be THAT bad. EDIT: http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/Media/...inum%20High.wmv This video shows how loud they are.

This could be a question for the GM-Tech. I'm not really sure about how backpressure effects the computer. It could require a certain amount of everything to function properly. Opening the cutout might change the pressure enough to throw a code or something of the sort. I know on my fathers 01' Z28 it is extremly sensitive to this sort ot thing. Maybe depend on O2 Sensor location?? anyone?? I'm definatly interested in this myself. Maybe effect a PCM and ECM truck differently as well?
marko Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Nobody here knows at all? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have a Corsa Sport exhaust. Straight pipe on acceleration, quiet at cruise. Manufacturer claims 16hp at wheels. I did notice a bit more punch for sure but the torque management in the computer keeps it from doing better. You do drive with your foot in it a bit more, so that does affect perceived performance. It does get a little better mileage. But it sounds AMAZING. And I'm really happy with the quality, no backfire can do damage to this muffler. Just my $0.02 Marko in Fernie, BC
fast36chevy Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Dont know about the 5.3 but I have two on my 36 chevy pickup hotrod on dual exhaust. LOUD. You lose some bottom end but gain top end. On a stock engine you will probably lose more power than you will gain in the available power band. It will have to be after cat for the engine to run correctly. I have the Bolt on flange type from summit with gaskets. I'v heard even the $200 plus electric cutouts leak. They are really just for show off purposes or drag racing shifting at 7000 rpm low gears at the track purposes. On dual exhaust they sound cool but on a single 3 inch after cat it might sound just gross. Unbolt your catback and see if you like the sound?
