bowtie grill emblems

I've seen a few trucks with different than stock grill bowties. What I'm interested in is a texas flag. I've searched eBay and found decals, but I'd rather have an actual insert. Are the ones I'm seeing decals or do they make the real thing?

Folks make them by painting or using the decals. Nothing to it. If you make a star cut-out, you can easily paint one. Just remove your bowtie for ease of installation. Easy to remove, just undo two plastic nuts holding it to the grill.

Get three paints for plastic. Get white, red, blue.

Rough up the bowtie with a bit of sandpaper so paint will stick. Spray the bowtie with white first, place the star cutout on the left side. Cover the bowtie 2/3rds of the way and spray blue. Then cover the bowtie in such a way so that you can spray the red stripe. Remove your star cutout.

After the paint dries, lightly sand to smooth it out, spray several times with clear coat, lightly sanding in between. The clear coat obviously shines it up, but also, offers bug and chip protection.

If painting isn't your thing, just go to a Texas truck stop, or a Texas Wal-Mart and get a flag decal, cut to shape, heat it and the bowtie with a hair dryer, then apply it. After it has been installed, then spray clearcoat on it for protection.

I've done dozens of these. If you can find a good decal-version on eBay, I'd get that. Be sure to spray it down with clearcoat.

Hey lrymal...I'm in Houston today, and will be driving right by you...Think you could whip me up a 5 tribes symbol (OK state flag) while I'm down here? I figure it will only take about 20 colors or so.

Heck, you'll be FLOATING by me. I was on my way to the field when the dispatcher called all of us back and said they were shutting everything down, go home. Flooding between Huntsville and College Station. What a mess!
