How do you remove middle seat back

hey ive got a '99 nbs silverado and i want to take off the cusion for the middle chair that you rest your back on. i want to leave the one you sit on there. I looked at it and it looks like its all one piece with two bars connecting the backing and the seat part. im asking this because im going to put a sub there but it is going to pop out just about as far as the seat cusion does now so that i can still use it as a seat. well if theres an easy way besides taking a torch to it let me know.

 

anyone know if it would be bad to point the sub towards the back window?
