Jacking with front tow hooks?

I saw an article in one of the mags that had a picture of the author jacking up his late model Chevy 1/2 ton by the front tow hook with a Hi-Lift jack.  Have any of you done this and is it safe for the tow hook?  Also, will the bumper lift attachment that Hi-Lift makes lift the rear bumper without damage to the bumper?  I know the bumpers are pretty thin on my 2001 GMC and I don't want to do any damage but my truck is a bit taller than stock and the Hi-lift is my preferred jack.  TIA

The tow hook attaches to your frame and not the bumper, so you should have no problems. I stalled out an 8000 pound winch on the first wrap of the drum with a snatch block, where the hook was attached to the tow hook. That was worth about 16,000 pounds of pull. Much more than the weight of your truck.

I lift on the hooks all the time w/a Hi-Lift.  Also, don't waste your money on the bumper lift accessory.  Put the Hi-Lift on either of the rear bumper mount brackets where they attach to the bumper.  I have a 3" lift and have no problem front or rear.

rikhek, could you post a picture of the way you lift your rig with the hi-lift jack?  I am interested, but not sure exactly what you are talking about.  And I don't want to screw up my rig by doing it wrong.

TIA

Pull okay but I dunno if you should lift her from this point,

there are several other safe jack points on the front end of these trucks.

Email one of the  "Professioal Engineers" you'll get the real dope.

Have a great one!
