Anybody else's Jimmy bounce?

My sister's 98 Jimmy SLE has the "Premium Smooth Ride" suspension...and bounces like it has bad shocks...i cant explain it.

 

She does have torsion bars...but when i took off her shocks...they extended right out..like they were brand new...they were some orange and black things.

 

Is it supposed to bounce alot like this? It seems really excessive.

I don't think my '99 Jimmy (SLS) has the "Premium Smooth Ride" suspension, but it doesn't bounce much (except when I'm off~roadin' it).

 

Sounds to me like something is wore out. Wish I could be of more help to ya.

here is a good test for any truck with shocks on both ends; stand on the front, then the rear bumper. jump up and down a couple times and if the end your on bounces more that 1 time when you stop. the shocks are shot. i have taken off more than a few gas charges shocks that are worn out inside, but extend when removed. also, when you removed them, did they extend slow, or fast? also, unless you weigh more than me(285lbs) it should be very very difficult to compress good gass charges shocks.

if you notice, new in the box gas shock, have a wire keeping them compressed. if you cut the wire, they extend pretty quick. if the seals or valves inside are bad, but they didn't leak out the gas, theshock will still extend but they are still bad. also, a short cab/short bed truck will bounce more on a paved street, especially if it is wavy or broken up, as the shorter the wheel base, the more you feel the bounce.

good luck, and if you replace the shock, use good ones, not cheap ones, or you'll be doin it again soon, cause i've done it, got the t-shirt and coffee cup!!

Which may not apply to all shocks. When I got the Ranchos for my Bronco, there was nothing holding the shocks and I had to physically pull the end of it to get it to extend. Those shocks are on the Bronco now and working great.
