ORU Leveling Kit

I am very interested in getting the front end of my new Chevy up and I came across the ORU kit and the Ready Lift kit. I have heard that the ORU kit is the way to go, but if anybody has either please offer some insight. I want the ride and front end wear to be very similar to that of stock if that helps.

Just order some different indexed keys from gm direct, some Bilstein shocks from Autozone, add a half inch spacer on the shocks and you have achieved the same set-up for a heck of a lot cheaper price.

Different indexed keys from gm direct, can you elaborate please, im sorry but im assuming you are talking about a torsion bar key. Where can I get the half inch spacer?

You can either get the f150 keys or the green keys to reach your desired ride height. Before you go buying the keys, try cranking your torsion bars with the stock keys to see if you can't get the desired ride and height you are looking for. Keep in mind when you crank your torsion bars it’s a good idea to get an alignment afterwards. For the spacer just use some washers and stack them. I had 2 washers lying around the house that were .5 inches thick so I just used those. Even though you have a 2006 truck according to your signature, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the stock shocks when doing this because we all know the stock shocks that come on these trucks don't last long. I just threw on a set of Bilsteins and can't believe the difference. Just ordered a set of the 2" longer chrome ones and an add-a-leaf last week for the rear.

I'm assuming you want your back end higher than the front if you are adding a leaf to the rear? How would one know which keys to purchase? I see you mention F150 and green but is there a particular year or model? Are they difficult to install? I'm still learning. Apologies for my lack of knowledge.

When it's all said and done my truck will sit level or pretty close. The part number for the green keys is 15592573. They aren't hard to install take about 15 mins to do as long as you have the correct tools. No need for apologies, everyone has to start learing somewhere.

I thought that the green keys were made for the HD trucks? I was told Ford keys for the half tons and green keys for the heavy dutys. The green key work any better/worse on a half ton compared to the Fords?

That’s right; I forgot yours was a 1/2 ton. The difference between them is just the degree they are indexed. I will see if I can find a part number for the ford keys.

I was able to get mine pretty close to level using the stock keys by cranking them almost all the way.

thanks for the help guys, anybody think the Ready Lift keys would be any better than a Ford key? Putting money to the side, I want to know what I'd be better off with in the long run.

The only way to tell how they are different is to find what degree they might be indexed. Other than that I would think the material they are made from would be pretty similar.

Is there a how to with pictures for this anywhere? We just purchased the truck monday and this is one of the 1st things I would like to do.

Truck is an '04 1500 4x4 5.3.

There is a how to site somewhere. Do a quick search in this forum. Also, I'm still looking for the correct part number to purchase for my silverado z71 - 2005 crew if anyone has it.

If I find the site with the pics of the install, I'll post it.
