Ride Quality z71 Tahoe vs. Suburban

Recommended Posts

Has anyone spent any time behind the wheel of both a z71 tahoe and a z71 suburban 03-06 model year? I am tempted by the larger suv but worry it may be a little too big for me. however, i really prefer a smooth, comfortable ride, both on road and off, and figure the longer wheel base suburban would be better. I am trying to determine if the difference is really than noticeable or not.

I would greatly apprec the input from anyone who has made a close comparison in this regard

I have had a limited amount of time behind the wheel of both. I didn't notice a difference, however there was several days between driving of the different vehicles. Go to the dealer and check both out. The answer to your question will be fun to find out for yourself. :)

I was riding in a 05 suburban yesterday. We took it out in a pasture, cause thats what you do up here, and man that thing was smooth. A lot smoother than my z71. Couldn't tell ya about the tahoe though, although the older ones were smooth too.

unless I am mistaken (happens alot just ask the wife) I would think they ride identical since they are the exact same vehicle aside from trim differences. Is one longer than the other? You might get some beam shake campared to a shorter wheel base but I think you would be hard pressed to determine a honest difference.

If looking for overall ride and handling, the Suburban is a little bit better with the longer wheelbase and slightly heavier weight. The Suburban is a little less twitchy.

The disavantage of the Suburban is that it is a longer vehicle--making it a little bit less maneuverable. And, as asilverblazer said, the break over angle is sacrificed in off road situations.

The advantage of the Suburban, too, is that if you use the second and third row a lot, it is better. The Tahoe has the cutouts on the rear door that makes getting in and out a little more difficult and the rear door windows don't roll down very far. Using the the available third row in the Tahoe takes away all of your cargo space.
