Question about stiff ride`

I have a 2002 Tahoe Z71 that I just love to drive.  It has the stock Bilstein shocks and stock 285X17 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S tires.  Getting around town, its stiff ride is just fine - it glides over pot holes and such.

However, I've noticed something on the highway (I live in the LA area, so I'm on highways a lot).  Sometimes, while driving at highway speeds over road that "looks" smooth, the truck will bounce pretty good - kinda like I'm riding over washboard.  Sometimes, it gets pretty bumpy.

Now I figure its either that the freeway just isn't as smooth as it looks (we do have some pretty bad stretches) and that's the way stiff suspension feels, the tires do something weird on the highway surface (we have a lot of "grooved" concrete highway), or something else is going on with the suspension.  I did some driving over some fairly new asphalt highway the other day, and it felt really smooth, but that surface is rare here.

The tires were just rotated and balanced, with no effect.  Is this just the "way it is", or should I be looking for a problem?

Thanks,

Barry

Is this your first Z-71?

The shocks are killers!  I would bet you would love the ride of some new shocks.

Go for the Edelbrock IAS's

Or some adjustables like Rancho or sompin.

The ProComp Shocks that came with my lift kit were night and day compared to the hard butt stock ones i used to have.
