Had to get this off my chest

I am sick and tired of reading all of this crap in auto and truck magazines about the I6 Envoy XL being underpowered. My wife owns an '03 with 50K and it's just as much fun and as powerful today as it was when we bought it in late '03.Maybe ya gotta wind it up a little more,So What?!?Last time I checked, that's the case with any 6cyl. Especially a V6.

I know it's not a 5.3,but it has all the power I've ever needed to pull a 6K camper without the first issue; No hesitation,No hunting...Nothing.

If we wanted to have more power at the time,we would have bought a Yukon.

Sorry 'bout my venting here.

Oh, and maybe it's not the greatest around town in MPG, but we traveled to Disney in Orlando(12 hrs) and at 70/75 MPH we averaged 23.5 MPG.

You're exactly right.

I love how all these people in the world talk about their "underpowered" vehicles.

Try driving a Chevy S10 2.2L Auto...now thats a dog.

I drove a YJ Wrangler with a 4" lift, 33" tires, 3:73 gears, a 4 banger, and an automatic transmission the other day.

I could ice-skate uphill faster than that thing.

the funny thing is, if that engine were in a toyota product, they would say nothing about it being "underpowered"... in fact, those same magazines would have nothing but praise for the engine`s performance...

As a fellow Envoy owner with the I6 engine, I agree!!! My 2002 Envoy is very powerful and tows my 26' Four Winns (7000+lbs) with ease. I have the 4.10 gears which helps.

People just assume that because its an inline 6 engine its doggy. But the 4.2 I6 engine is a DOHC setup, of which past inline 6 engines were not. And, just to rub in their faces the 4.2L GM I6 engine has been on the Wards Best Engines list for a few years now. To get 291HP and the equivalent in torque out of that engine and still get 16mpg and 21mpg on the highway to me, is a great feat! :banghead:

I have to say, I test drove both TBs with different engines. The I6 did not feel any less than the V8. I liked the V8 Because is came in the EXT, and I purchased off the lot.

they say the 4.2l is underpowered.. what are they used to driving f1 cars??

i drove a 2.2l 120hp Sonoma for 4 years and THAT is underpowered, but fine for everyday driving! if 291hp is underpowered in an SUV, then i dont know whats next. I drove an envoy with the 4.2l and to me it actually seemed fast. But then again, ive always drove vehicles are are toted as being underpowered...

95 Sierra 4.3l

98 sonoma 2.2l

00 Silverado 4.3l

people said to me that the 4.3l is underpowered... well i guess that can be true if i was out to race people. But as far as towing and regular driving goes.. they are all i need.

I'd agree also. My wife's 03 XL with an I6 has plenty of power. I think people have been conditioned to believe that if it doesn't have a V8 it must not have any power. Garbage if you ask me.
