Even Toyotas have problems

Now in order to be fair, let me state that I do respect Toyota for their longevity and reliability, they have one of the best records out there, that being said though, I think it's reached a point where the American product has improved or the Asian product has started to dwindle. Thats just my opinion.

I beleive it is both, IMO. Except for ford, The vehicles i've owned thru them were always bad. Since I have seen the light in 2003, I do have to say GM does have a better quality. I also have a 1995 Toyota tercel with 180k on the ticker and runs flawlessly without any moderate or major problems.

 

With all the urge to get 30+mpg vehicles, these "import" manufactures maybe trying cut corners in quality to keep up with production. But so far the only ones I see recalls from are toyota and nissan.

Cars and trucks are completely different markets from what I have seen. As much of a patriot as I am it is clear that the Japanese import market is incredible in terms of reliability and longevity. HOWEVER, I am hardpressed to find someone who will say Americas trucks are doing as poorly as her other automobiles in terms of Longevity. We are still beating the Germans in all markets in terms of reliability though

my parents 05 highlander just got recalled. A plastic piece can fall off the console and become lodged in the gas pedal.

iirc my vin codes if the first number is not a 1 best not to bash the imports.

 

my gmc came from the Canada plant. but thats just final assembly. the drivtrain came from some place in the U.S. and chassy somewere else in the U.S.

 

toyota does the same thing final assembly somewere in the U.S. and parts from all over.

I read something in Pop-Mech a while ago which said the most US vehicles are the Ford F series with 96% American parts.

one of my aquaintances is ( or used to be, LOL) a confirmed Toyota car lover.

 

that is until his lovingly maintained 04 Camry with V6 engine grenaded the engine at the 60k mark. Rods came apart on first crank journal. they didn't want to do anything for him to make it right. He started investigating and he found out his was not an uncommon problem.

 

But to listen to the media you'd think it was just the bad old americans who make faulty products.

When i pull up to a toyota at a stoplight I say "Poor little twucky" He looks at me and says "Poor rattletrap owner"

 

I love my big white silverado and I know he wishes he had one.

 

But our trucks are so much better because of the free competition that toyota causes. I would not own one but I respect the good they do for all of us. Its not that long ago that American vehicles were pretty rough.

I said they are were most American in terms of parts. I can't speak for the engineering or assembly Ford has setup. I too prefer GM. Our experience with ford was with a Taurus...

 

Also, your lemon lawing of the Ford was rare in the grand schemem of things. As far as GM goes we have a lemon lawed 1996 Caddilac STS in our autoshop at school. GM, right?

I still think pickups are the most reliable vehicles on the road. They ride the worst, handle the worst, but with the amount of brutality people have put theirs through you wonder why everywhere you look you see one with a gazillion miles on it.

Toyota's rein of invisibility is by far over, just go look on gmi's website the recalls page is loaded with them most all seperate cases.Actually right now the first half of the page is nothing but Toyota recalls for this year.Still with that being said they are still looked at as far superior vs. the American makes and when yota issues a recall they are applauded as being a great company for fixing there mistakes when gm does a recall it's nothing but negative feedback and everyone stating what a hunk of junk gm is and they should be ashamed of there product having faults.

A quick search of these (and any other automotive enthusiast forums on ANY manufacturer) boards will show quite clearly that every single manufacturer produces crap from time to time.

 

 

 

 

Let me remind EVERYBODY of something. This board is about being a community of people that have come together with a goal of sharing information about GM trucks, the repairs and modification of said trucks, and just generally helping people out. It's also about making friends of people with similar interests and sharing lifes experiences with them in a pleasant online environment that's safe for anybody in the family to enjoy.

 

While opinion and debate (not to mention friendly jabs at competitors) are integral and expected parts of this process, some people just feel the need to be ugly to others and try to insert ad hominem attacks on people and things that contribute nothing towards the goals I stated in the previous paragraph. When you do this, you take away the informative value of the forums, and detract from the overall experience of the boards for a great many people. Not to mention run off some truly knowledgeable and friendly people that could be helping our 25,000 members learn a bit more about these trucks than they knew yesterday.

 

If you want to politicize and stand on a soap box ranting about where a vehicle is manufactured, you're in the wrong place.

 

If you're only here to start crap, you're in the wrong place.

 

If you're here to do nothing but bash on other people or manufacturers, you're in the wrong place.

 

If you want to scream about the Liberals and what they're doing to this country and the automotive industry, you're in the wrong place.
