Lowering Silverado 4WD

I just purchased my first chevy truck, it is a 2001 silverado 4wd ext.cab. it currently has 20" wheels, and i am planning on putting on some 22s" next spring, but i want to lower it this summer. i was wondering if anyone has lowered there truck that have 22's and are happy with what they have done.

Seconded! Go trade that bad boy in for an '07 2WD then I'll help u lower it. I got an '05 Ext Cab Sittin on 20" with a 2" rear drop. I got pics if you want to see how its done.

Silverado SS used to be AWD. Now they are 2WD due to gas guzzler tax.

But you bought a Z71....every dime you just spent on the truck was buying it to flaunt it...so what is your point? Also, AWD is NOT the same as 4x4. So what we are saying is, you could of spent several thousand less to get the 2wd instead of wasting a perfectly fine 4x4.

I mean, is that lowering package or the 22" rims gonna make you what.....go under lower bridges? I am not seeing the logic in this.

Alright now...theres not much sense in getting all bent out of shape.

He said the SS was AUTO 4WD. May not have know the AWD terminology. It's his truck. If he wants to lower a Z71 then so be it. About 8 months ago there was a fellow on here wanted to bring it down a little bit. He didn't need high clearence but lived in snow banks were 4 wheel drive comes in play.

I dun really like the idea of lowering a 4x4 either, but again. It's his truck, if he wants to drop it let him drop it. Who are we to bag on him for that?

Not to start anything but I don't see the point in lifting the trucks to the extent some guys do. Alot of the big lifted trucks I've seen never see anything other than street service. Good to know you could clear a small car if you need to though. I've owned an '03 Silverado SS with AWD, it was great off the line and in the snow but it was not an off road truck. I now own an '05 GMC crew cab "Z-71" 4wd that is lowered 2" in the back to level it out and I run 20" rims. Why? Because that is what I like, most of my miles are street/highway, but I like the ability to drop it into 4 wheel if I need to. I used 4WL today to pull the boat out of the water, it was awesome to just idle up the ramp.

And i agree, i have seen 4x4s with 8 inch lifts that have never even been rained on.

The original poster said he didn't want to spend 15k on raising it up when he didn't need to, but he plans on lowering it and putting huge rims when he doesn't need to. Hell, a lift kit would be alot cheaper then a body drop and rims.

Man...i got offered a job doing custom fiberglass enclosures for a new audio shop in tulsa...i am debating on if i want to take it or not..the shop seemed kinda...shady.

all of the 2 wheel drive trucks i came accross where beaten on, or work trucks, so i came accross a 4x4 for cheap in mint conditon from some lady that was selling her ex-husbands sh!t. i want to lower it a few inchs and having 4wd is great when it snows hear in the winter.. does that kind answer things. i own an off road vehicle and i havnt used it in years, i know how much off roading costs. and im not goin there with a newer vehicle

im with you siahnide. i want to lower my 4wd cause she dont get dirty, just need to get to work when it snows. i dont have any problems lowering the rear. its the front im concerned with. i know ill lose travel, but i want the ride to stay nice. i dont want it to be stiff, i need to figure out the best way to go about this. and to any who are concerned im not interested in putting 20s or anything on it. i think it will look pretty cool lowered with the stock wheels. (sleeper style). any input other than negative is appreciated. thanks.
