Diesel NOT legal in 2007 engines???

Just a curiosity question: Recently, while fueling my 2002 GMC Sierra D/A, I read a sign on the diesel pump that said the fuel it was dispensing would be ILLEGAL in 2007 model year trucks!

What gives?

From what I have heard, it has something to do with the additives and sulpher(?) content. Apparently the currently used diesel fuel can damage new 2007 engines.

The standard for diesel fuel in the U.S. is changing from Low Sulfur Diesel (less than 500 ppm) to Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (less than 15 ppm). 2007 model year U.S. diesel engines will be built to run only on ULSD. 2006 and earlier model year U.S. diesel engines are supposed to run with no problems on ULSD, as the refineries will include additives to make up for the lower sulfur content.

So if you buy a new 07 Diesel right now, can you

put diesel in it?

Or will it have a different size fill hole that the current pumps

wont fit?

(Remember back when people knocked out the gas fill hole deal

on unleaded cars to run the leaded gas with

the bigger hose nozzle?)

I read that the new diesel ULSD wont be available until late fall

or early next spring.

the local dealer told my sister to wait to buy, since he said a new Diesel on

the old fuel would screw up all the filters and stuff and plug them up.

Weird coming from a sales guy to wait to buy.

I posted this in another thread.

Does anyone have the straight scoop on the 07's and the

fuel issues?

All the pumps say do not run the fuel in the new 07 and up diesels.

Ive been told by a bunch of guys into the diesels and aftermarket

that its no big deal.

Seems to me it is. I've read that the old diesel currently available will plug

up the filters and stuff on the new rigs, and the new diesel fuel wont be

available until Late fall or Early next spring.

Also, are the new 07s with the LBZ gonna run worse than the 06's without all the smog stuff? Or do the 06 LBZs already have all of that?

Reason asking is Sister is considering a new one to tow their 14,000 lb toyhauler.

Anyone know what the new 07 GMC and Chevys are going to look like?

GMC seems to stay the same with a tried and true great look, but Chevy seems to constantly change.

Is this diesel fuel deal even an issue?

Her dealer, told her to maybe wait and see how all this plays out.

Seemed out, becasue she's ready to buy, and he said to wait.

Is this new diesel fuel supposed to be the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel?

I've read Sulfer doesnt really lube the injectors and pumps like people think it does.

Will the current diesel station nozzles not go into the fill hole of an 07?

You'd think the stations would already have the new diesel out since ULSD has been around in Europe for years.

When are the 07 trucks going into production?

I know Dodge is waiting until 07 1/2 to bring out their new 6.7 Liter Cummins.(rated less HP and torque than the current LBZ still)

Educate me please. Thanks.
