fan clutch

I replaced the fan clutch on my folks '97 K1500 (5.0) with a "heavy duty" Parts America replacement unit.

Stupidly, I came here after the install. It doesn't seem to be working any better than the factory unit that I just pulled out. I still have that loud roar all through the RPM range - even at speed.

A forum search revealed that often these aftermarket pieces simply don't work. How can they continue to sell parts that don't function properly? :chevy:

Am I really relegated to the OEM part for the fix?

I'm borrowing my parent's pick-up for some projects around the house and would like to give it back to them in better shape than the way I received it. It's the least I could do.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, the smileys here are much better than the forums I normally frequent. :)

How have you determined that it doesn't work? I find it hard to believe that these companies sell stuff and actually stay in business. You didn't put out any information to what your trouble is.

I have not had good luck with aftermarket clutches but remember this, it is Summer and hot. Any clutch will be on almost all the time in hot weather. It is quite possible that your clutch is working great. Imagine your joy if your fan was very quiet and your engine overheated on the side of the road.

My oem clutch is on and the fan is noisy most of the time this season. Moving adequate air for cooling in hot wether is a noisy phenomenon.
