99 Tahoe Trailer Brake Wiring

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just bought a 99 tahoe and noticed that the truck was outfitted with the wiring for the trailer brakes and of course, the 7 pin plug. The previous owner took his controller with him when he sold it.

My question is, can I get a harness for my brake controller that just plugs into that junction block on the fire wall? I thought on the old body style you couldn't, but I can't find any cut wires under the dash from the old owners controller.

Any help would be a big help!!

Thanks

EDIT: I can't say for sure if he had a controller installed, he did have something mounted under the dash so I assumed that it was where the controller was, but it could have been something else.

Did the OBS trucks come wired for a 7 pin from the factory?

No you will have to wire it up yourself.

There are 2 wires ran in the harness already the full length of the truck to use for the brake signal and the 12v+. Look under the hood at the firewall on the driver's side near the pass-thru for all the wires. The harness that comes from the frame has the 2 wires taped up on it (orange and blue). You will have to check the 7-pin plug at the back to make sure they hooked those up.
