N00b Question...7.4 carb'd in 95?

Hi all! I'm about to pull the trigger on buying a 95 Suburban w. a 7.4 liter. The guy who has it says it's not FI, it's got a 4bbl. Is this possible? I thought all carbs were history well before 1995.

TBI starting in 1987 and SFI in 1996 so the truck is a not OEM. 454 was not available on anything lower than a #2500 since 1980.

It is a 2500, and I'm certain it's stock, I think he's just mistaken re: the carb (TBI can look like a carb to the uninitiated).

TBI does look allot like a carb to the untrained eye.

Thanks for the input guys. I now have the truck at home...and ya, it's a TBI. By the way, this is the best used vehicle I've ever bought. Tight as a drum, shifts perfect, straight as an arrow, no rust (spent it's whole life in AZ). And, I even got just short of 13mpg w. 4.10 gears and a big block, at around 75mph all the way home! I consider this to be a minor miracle.

Thanks for your help, and I'm looking forward to hanging out here to learn more about my great truck from you folks.

Holy crap...13 mpg? Wonder what's wrong w/my dad's truck then...He's got a '94 pickup...crew cab, dually (probably where the biggest problem is) w/the 454 TBI and the 5-speed...The absolute BEST he's ever gotten has been 11...

Well, it has 285 75/16's on it, so that reduces the final drive by about 3%, so that helps. Also, the combo of slightly better aerodynamics w. the SUbby, and the lack of being a dually (and ot's 2wd) prolly makes up the difference. The exaclt mileage was 12.87 over the whole trip, so it's not hard to imagine all of those things adding up to 1.8mpg difference.
