Radio Volume Adjustment Increments

I tried using the search box on the forum page but I kept getting and error message, so here goes...

I've got an '04 Silverado 2500 with the Bose head unit with the 6 CD changer. Can the volume increments be made any finer? It just seems that when you're cruising down the highway and someone wants to talk the radio needs to be turned down just a smige, it's always too low and the next step up is too loud. Is there something in the BCM or a Tech II option that will make the adjustments finer?

Thanks.

I've tried changing the autovolume settings and they don't seem to help my problem.

I would say yes, I just drove an '06 with the Bose system and the audio adjustments are much closer throughout the Db range. I would say a dealer reflash who update the radio.

My regular dealer is playing dumb and saying that no TSB or programming exists to correct my problem. I tried another dealer and they want to change out my radio. My radio and CD changer works fine. I don't want to replace something that is not broken, it just needs to be reprogrammed.

Does anybody know if any TSB exists for this situation?

Subject: Radio Volume Not As Loud After Reprogramming or Replacing Radio - kw performance speaker loud amplifier amp program sound no noise audio #PIT3022 - (06/17/2004)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Owners may comment that after the radio has been reprogrammed or replaced, the volume is not as loud at the same volume setting as before. This only applies to vehicles with RPO "UQ7" without RPO "Y91".

Recommendation/Instructions:

A new "Audio Calibration" part number 10364319 was released to enhance low end volume control resolution. This calibration does not change the upper end of the radio volume control and the volume will get as loud as the old calibration. But the low end volume control has been changed so that each click of the volume control will raise the actual volume at a slower rate then the previous radio calibration. This is normal and no repairs should be made.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.

Models:

(03-04 Chevrolet All Full Size Trucks and Utilities) and (03-04 GMC All Full Size Trucks and Utilities)

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
