noisy 6.0 liter fixed

Finally I have found a dealership willing to take the time to actually troubleshoot my noisy 6.0liter instead of just telling me that it is piston and ther is nothing they can do.The dealership went through everything they could think of to diagnose the problem it ended being my oil filter! sounds crazy but thats what it was I run 530 mobil 1 oil with a wix filter the shop forman told me that it a common accurance that when using a few different filters they really start to make noise. So Ive had the truck back a few days now and no noise from motor at all Im real happy

Yeah but was the engine knocking because it was not getting enough oil or what?

Yea, I'd be interested to hear which filter stopped the rattle / knock.

Buddy of mine said that GM increased tolerances in crank bearings and in other places to reduce drag and therefore increase HP and MPG. And they use Alum for pistons that expand and contract more...they are said to be stronger material.

All that leads to a noisy engine at start up...but after things get warmed up and oil filled, it is fine. Okay, not sure if that is really the story, but it's a plausible explanation in my mind. Keep telling myself that the noise just means I'm getting more power and more MPG.

some filters drainback when the engine is shut down. when you start engine you get lifter like noises until the lube system is fully primed.

sounds like whats happening here.

My fuggin ford Expedition does the same shyt if I dont use the FOMOCO filters. go figure.

so sawdust really does quieten it down?

In my opinion, WIX filters are the BEST filters you can buy. Cut one apart and compare it to any other filter, you'll see why.

My 6.0 came with that tiny PF-46 filter, I install a much longer filter than recommended, I install the PF-58 equivalent which is about 1" longer than stock filter.

I run Mobil 1 Synthetic

Does the WIX filter come with the anti-drainback check valve? If not, that could be part of why his truck was noisy. AC filters (well, most of the newer ones) have that check valve because they took it out of the oil filter adapter.
