Tire Rotation Question

Recommended Posts

I just turned 6000 miles on the clock on my '06 Silverado and figured its time for a tire rotation. I have the factory Bridgestone tires which seem to be wearing well. My question is what is the best way to rotate your tires for the longest possible wear? The owners manual says to move the two rear tires to the front and keep them on the same side of the axle. It recommends that the front tires be swapped on the axle when moved to the rear so that the front driver's side tire would then be on the rear passenger side, etc. Wouldn't it be better to criss-cross all four tires? This is my first truck so maybe their is logic to doing it as recommended in the owners manual. Thanks for the help.

If you criss-cross the next time you rotate they'll be back where they originally started from.

I do the backs forward and cross the fronts like the owners manual says. Seems to work well.

The last time I rotated my tires on my '02 Yukon Denali was at 25k miles. I now have 68k on the OEM Michellin Cross Terrains and they have worn pretty evenly. I've also owned BMW sedans w/o staggered wheels and the manufactuer does not advise or recommend rotating the tires. Net, I'm not convinced it makes a huge difference although it may help some with a heavy truck. If you do it, change front to back every 10k and that should be more than sufficient.
