Not sure if I hit the button or not, but I was driving home at highway speeds and look down and the Neutral (N) button was blinking red.....I stopped and the tranny in Park and set the parking brake and it went out.....

Did I accidentally hit one of the 4WD buttons or what?

Depending on which GM truck you have... (not really obvious), you may have a defective dash switch. It's not uncommon on 2001-2006 full size chevy trucks. A common symptom is the swich showing random settings, for me, it showed 4LO on the highway at 65 MPH. Your service 4WD message may come on too. The switch is about $100 if you need to purchase one. Again, it's not clear what you own, so, if it's an S-10, or, Jimmy, it may be something completely different.

Newer trucks also have an encoder motor on the front diff, or, the switch assembly on the transfer case itself.
