I am trying to buy a old 89 s-15 with the tech-iv in it is there anything i should be aware about with this engine? Are things known to go on them? TIA

It depends on what you want to do with the truck. If you just want a DD, then go for it, it'll keep truckin WAY longer than the truck will. If you want something as a project...go for it anyway, V8 swaps aren't that hard

they call them the "iron duke" for a reason. friggin things have just enough power to keep you out of trouble, not not enough to allow you to be stupid with them. there just isnt enough power there to break things.

 

the only thing that I know of that wear on them and can be a pita is the timing setup. instead of a gear and chain, some had nylon gears which can wear.

This little 2.5 has around 130,000 miles on it it looks like the valve cover gasket is leaking or atleast i think it is but i dont think that is unusual for a 16yr old truck should be a quick fix if i get the truck. Anybody have any suggestions for pepping up this little motor such as intake exhaust? i couldn't find a intake for this little truck just a exhaust. I was looking up some parts for it and summitracing has some decent parts for cheap i mean i would have never thought an o2 sensor 15 bucks? almost a little too low but I am going to try to get the truck today and see if i can get the truck cheaper the guy that is selling it had a 1,400 price tag on the window and I checked out the kelly blue book value and it said 450 why would he be asking so much money the truck has primer paint on it and its in decent shape i still didnt get to drive it. the 02 sounds about right , the 2.5's didn't ahve any of the fancy stuff like the newer sensors. I don't even think it was a heated version. might be ony a 1 wire sender.

I believe the old 2.5's were loud, and had a bit of a knock...which was normal.
