Hi,

I'm thinking of putting 285s on my stock 2005 1500HD. Is it suggested that I torque my torsion bar to level the truck off? If I do this will I need an alignment? As well, once the tires are replaced how can I configure my speedometer to properly read and ensure that the anti-locks works as they should with the bigger tires.

Thanks

Welcome, you'll need the dealer or a shop that can reprogram your truck's computer to recognize the change in tire size and make your speedo accurate.

Whether or not you want the truck leveled is up to you. I did it for the clearance. It is HIGHLY recommended that if you adjust the t-bars, then get an alignment pronto.

I heard it couldn't be adjusted above 265 tire size.

Stpetblue,

Do you mean that you cannot put 285's ?

No, just that the speedo and ABS cannot be re-flashed accurately above the 265 size. You can put any size on that will physically fit, but getting the computer to understand the ratio differential may not be possible.

Stpetblue,

I think that may be true of the GM scan tools but aftermarket it can be done, such as with a Hypertech tuner.

My friend is running 35"s with stock computer tune on his '03 Sierra, everything works fine. I think you would be fine with 285's. He had the hypertech but it messed with the tranny shifting so much that he took it out.
