How to restore/polish bed caps?

Recommended Posts

My truck came with diamond grid bed caps when I bought it, however they are dull and oxidized. What should i use to get them to look shiny again? To make matters worse, the PO kept the toolbox so that area is still new looking, makes the dull part look even better! I'm sure you guys know some good stuff to use.

Thanks.

^^^Yes that is the stuff, it works great on rims also. Diamondplate is a pain in the butt, I've used my buffer but it does tear up the bonnetts. Hopefully yours isn't too oxidized, its worth a shot and its cheap. ONe of my friends made that signature......the cats mine, and my truck almost looks like that one, its getting there. Maybe I'll get 20's in a feweyears!

Well, I tried the mothers polish. While it did make the surface look slightly shinier and slicker, the oxidation is still very bad. I also tried some rubbing compound and it didn't help either. Is there something more aggressive that I could try? I'm sure the mother's polish would work much better if the surface was in better shape to begin with. I'm about to give up on these and buy new ones later when I get the money.

you might need to get an actual real buffer. you know one that spinns in circles really fast. variable speed is nice though. then get some metal polish. the stuff that you stick on the buffing wheel and then buff that in. i don't know the names of the stuff but I think sears handles it. It is made to cut into the metal and then smooth it out. I work in a machine shop and that is what we do to raw aluminum. works great to bring the shine out.
