fuel pump

I have a 96 silverado with a vortec 5.7L and can not keep fuel pumps going for more than a month.  My third pump just calved and I am thinking that there is something other that a faulty pump that needs fixing.  Does anyone know what the problem may be or do I just have bad luck.  I am getting tired of removing the tank every 4th weekend.  Both carter and delco pumps have been used and they only last 4-6 weeks.  Please help.

Just a thought, but not likely.

Overheated pumps?  It usually shortens the life, but I haven't heard of it only a months time.  The fuel is a coolant for the pump.  Around a 1/4 tank is when the pump is starting to be expose out of the fuel, so constantly running the tank to empty leaves the pump exposed a long time; 50-100 miles and if that's on the highway 1.5-2 hours.

Yep, the fuel is definately a coolant for the pump.  I personally wouldn't recommend any GM truck running below 1/4 of a tank.  Is your tank clean?  It could be that you are continuing to get trash from the tank sucked up into the pump and filter.

GM's are notorious for fuel pump problems.  They run at a fairly high pressure and that pressure must be precise.  No +/- 10% on these things!
