Steering Vibration In 2004 Tahoe Z71

Hey Folks,

 

I am new to the forum and have owned may Bowties. I am here to learn and offer help where I can. My first question is about something that I noticed on my 2004 Tahoe Z71 the other day. I found one in good shape (used) with 40K miles on her. The physical condition was excellent. After driving for a few days I began to feel some vibration coming through the steering column. It becomes very noticeable when I am sitting at an interestion idling. When I take-off it disappears. It also sometimes feels like there is a subtle shake in the steering when going over bumps.

 

When I took it back to the dealership the other day they had one of the mechanics go around the block, and he claims that he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. But I still swear that there is something not right. It just feels like there is something loose somewhere. The alignment seems fine, tires have correct pressure, and the underneath appears spottless.

 

I found a TSB #040601023 that sounds like it addresses this issue. Has anyone else come across this? The TSB is kind of vague and some dealerships seem to want to argue when you mention TSBs.

Tell them to either replace or relube the steering shaft, though it never gave me vibrations thru the wheel while stopped some of your other explanations of it make it sound like thats the problem.Mainly a loose feeling steering column while hitting uneven road surfaces.If they try and make you pay out of your pocket for it i suggest calling the 1-800 chevy number and asking them to goodwill it as they should, seeing as they still in 4+ years have not found a perminate fix for it yet.
