Advice For Cold Air Induction

Hey Folks,

 

I am considering swapping out that massive air box for a nice cold air induction. I always used the Vortex Rammer on my Vettes. Does the air induction on the 5.3L degrade the gas mileage?

If you live in colder stated it reduces you fuel economy. The OEM air cleaner box gets a mix of cold & underhood air that gives the best performance & fuel economy. Colder air requires the PCM to add fuel to get the required 14.7 A/F

John, you can do what I did. I went with a Trueflow set up which retains the factory box but replaces the tube and filter. I have had mine almost a year and have had absolutely no oil on my MAF from the TF oiled foam filter. Their oil contains a glue that holds it on the filter where it should be. The kit is well made, looks terrific under the hood, is almost as quiet as the stock unit, produces about 14 hp and 17ft lbs of tq and in my case improved my avg MPG from 17.42 to 18.19 on a 02 Yukon XL with a 4.10 gear. This MPG avg was done using 7 tanks before and 6 tanks after the install.

 

There are a lot of intake kits on the market and many different opinions concerning them. However, I would not use a kit that leaves the filter exposed to the elements including hot underhood temps. Check out their website and make up your own mind.

If it was me and I was going to do it again, i would skip the Cold Air Intake, and go straight for the Custom Tune. I got mine from wait4meperformance.com and wow, what a difference.

 

It was only $158.10 shipped also, cheaper than most of the Cold Air Intakes.
