Gonna Replace The Front Rotors

Well, I replaced the pads all the way around last weekend but am still getting a slight shudder from the front end on light braking at highway speeds. I am going to replace the rotors. Is it necessary to re-pack the bearings? Do you HAVE to do it?

cant repack the bearing on 99+ rados, they are sealed

Hub assemblies are not serviceable on the GMT 800's. Best thing to try is jack front wheels off the ground and check play in front wheel by grabbing at 12:00 and 6:00 and rocking.

 

There should be little to zero play. These hub assemblies are not great on these trucks and I have replaced 3 of them on my 2002 Z71.

 

Not too bad to replace ( I got it down to about an hour)

well if you are goin to go with rotors give trinet motorsports (do a google) for them. I got 4cross drilled and sloted rotors with pads and zinc plating shiped to NJ for LA for just over 400, iv got about 20k on them and they still look great and no probs thus far, hell of a price too, cuz the local autoparts store wanted about 500 just for 2 rotors stock.

I replaced my front rotors. My hubs felt great, so I did not replace them. As for rotors, my local carquest store sold me a pair for just over $100. They are performing excellent.

 

As for the front hubs, if they are not broke, don't fix them. As your truck gets more miles, just put a jack under the front when you service it and give them a good "shake" to see if any play develops. That is what I do.

I just did my rotors this morning. I was getting a horrible shimmy when lightly touching the brake pedal. They didn't look bad, but I had a spare set here (factory take-offs), so I swapped them, cleaned the pad brackets and caliper slide pins, and sanded the pads smooth. No more shimmy. The "old" set will get machined for the next time. There looks to be barely any wear, but there's a nice ridge of rust building up on both edges, so that's what I think was causing the problem.

 

Oh, and yes, the bearings are sealed as mentioned.
