hello all...new gmc owner. switched from ford and upgraded to 2006 gmc sierra crew cab. just got it last week. has 500 miles on it and at 45 mph, the back end is vibrating. it is enough to make my passager seat dance. won't vibrate at 40 or 50. only at 45 (cruise/accelerate/decelerate). could use some help figuring this out. all the other posts about wobble and vibration deal with vehicles that have 35000 miles or more. nothing on low mileage. thanks for the help in advance.

Hi, I also have a '06 GMC crew and a possible problem could be either an out of round tire or a wheel unbalanced. I have heard many unhappy people on this forum regarding the OEM General Tires. When I test drove a crew, I also experienced the shudder/shimmy at roughly 45MPH.

Good luck.

Just for your own sanity, check and make sure that mud or other debris is not caked to the inside of the rim or the drive shaft. Taking a garden hose to this is a lot faster than going back to the dealer.

thanks for the replies. checked the rims and didn't find any mud. so that would leave the first suggestions. now...do i call the dealer and have them work on it? is it something they should work on and fix because new vehicle, is it covered by warranty, or out of pocket expense? again...i appreciate the help.

I would go to the dealer and have someone, preferably the Service Manager, go on a test ride. Have them check the rims for round, tires and then spin balance. Many of the replies on this issue state that the General Tires can possibly develop flat spots if they sit for long periods of time. It will be a challenge to get someone to rectify the problem. Dealer points to tires etc. You just have to fight it through. :puke:

I have a 06 silverado long bed 4x4 I have a shake at low speeds 5-45 mph also.

The dealer fixed the high speed 60+ shake by relacing one front wheel it had 4 chunks the size of a half dollar crecent shaped around the inside lip, he also balanced all 4.

I still have the low speed shake felt in the seat not steering wheel, dealer is going to send it in for a radial force balance on all 4. I was impatient and jacked it up a little to just get the rears off the ground. I then put in neutral (while running) it was enough to rotate the tires while I took a chalk and block pressed it against the back tires. I found the LR to be at least 1/4" out of round but also egg shaped. The RR was not quite as bad but still out of round. My dealed told me the only way he could replace the tires was to force balance first then he would have the doucmentation to order new ones. Th tires run true no wobble but eggs it has goodyears on it. I also have a pull to the right but was told GM would not cover alignments until 1500 miles? Any thought on that. Iwould think it would be untill 1500 miles.

I just had a war over this very issue. I had to fight with GM for over three months to get this resolved. I got nowhere untill I called general themselves and they called the tire shop and gave them an Return Authorization number to get credit for the tires. Once they got the credit i asked if I could pay the diff and upgrade. they agreed so when all was said and done I had all 5 (yes the spare was egg shaped too) with michlen LTX M/S and i am so glad i didn't give in these tires are great. Good luck :smash:

The solution: Get a set of Michelin LTX M/S. Quit screwing around with the OEM General tires. They are junk. I cannot believe that GM keeps using their crappy tires.
