water leak

I have water leaking out of the left rear of my center manifold on my 1996 chevy 5.7 vortec. The vehicle does not get hot. There is no water in my oil. Any ideas on what could cause this or even a remedy. I thought about some stopleak but not sure how that would work especially with dex-cool.

Mine did that at around 100,000 miles (1995 K30 Chevy). It was the intake manifold gasket.

 

At about the same time I had suddenly increased oil consumption, about 1 quart per 1000 miles. I had no oil contamination, but I was seeing unusual oil consumption.

 

Replacing the intake manifold gasket fixed both problems.

Change the intake gaskets. Stopleak isn't the answer.

Replace the intake manifold gasket ASAP. Revised GM Part Nr: 89017465

 

Also ckeck if you have the 8 revised manifold bolts. If not the dealer will have them. The revised bolts have a "stop" so that you can't really crush the intake manifold gasket as you tighten down the bolts.

The bolts you talk of are not revised. I matched one of my stockers to the "new ones" exactlly the same. Now unless you want to spend 4 bucks and some change apiece for some thread locking compound on shiney bolts go ahead...

 

The intake manifold gaskets have the metal inserts so they won't crush farther than they should...not the bolt. Those are the redisigned GM gaskets. Where is the hell did you get your info because you are very wrong.

Mr. Smith is correct. The new intake manifold gasket design incorperates "washer-like" stops so that the gasket can not be overcrushed. The bolts with the buit in stop function are doing essentially the same so you won't really need them if you are using the new gasket design.
