thinking about trading

thinking about trading my 2002 VW JETTA 1.8TURBO in for a 2000-2002 newer bodystile tahoe/yukon...

have a few questions tho...

i would be looking for an LT with the heated seats etc and about 100,000 miles because of the price...

how well do these trucks hold up with these sort of miles... my jetta only has 50,000 but i want to get back into a bigger vehicle (had a 1998 blazer LT until aug 06) and the only way to get into the tahoe i want is to go higher in miles

what things can i look for when searching for one of these trucks?

thanks!!

I don't know what the service record is on your VW, but they should hold up better than that.

Some weaknesses I have heard of:

-4L60E sun shell, I believe they started putting in stronger shells in 02, but if the trans has blown before that has likely been replaced.

-In 1998 GM switched how they assembled their engines resulting in some having piston slap. Heres an interesting, though bias, site: www.piston slap.com (with no space)

Do it! Get rid of that pos jetta. There is nothing wrong with a 100k mile plus truck/suv. They're just getting started at that milage.

thanks for the replies...

my jetta as of friday 10-13-06 has now had 3 clutches in it and i dont drive it hard... i think getting a tahoe/yukon will save me $$ with repairs... these clutches arent cheap either @ $2300 a piece!

A relative had a Jetta and had the thing brought back to the dealer so many times for electrical problems. He finally said F-it when he went to check on the car and they literally the entire interior of the car pulled out, dash, floor and seats completly pulled out with all the wiring stripped. That was his last vee-dub.

I bought a 2000 NBS Yukon SLE (not too much fancy stuff but works) with 68,000 miles on the clock. It has over 105,000 miles on it.

The only repairs I had to make (which I diagnosed) was a secondary air injection valve (pass side) and put new plugs and wires just before the 100,000 mark. I dump the tranny fluid every year (bout 4-5 qts each whack) and use Mobil 1 oil and Napa Gold/Wix filters.

I did have to replace a right rear window regulator (found on ebay for $25.00 + shipping)

Oh yeah, I replaced the shocks.

I have no piston slap, get 16+mpg average and the paint is awesome with a good clay bar and NXT wax.

We get 265,000 miles out of Tahoes for our Sheriff's Department.

My future maint will be a brake fluid flush and change the power steering fluid.

So in a nutshell.

Maintain the beast and she'll run for you, remembering that there are more mechanical goodies behind the engine to maintain. Look to this awesome site for zerk fitting locations and don't let them go dry either.
