manual to auto tranny swap

hi all, new to the forum and my first post.

 

so here we go. i just got this 92 C 1500 chevy pickup and the previous owner broke the manual tranny and installed a TH350 instead. well a bit later the torque converter went out and he decided to get rid of it.

 

well my question is did he do something wrong in puuting in the TH350, any sugestions on what i should look for to see if he left something out.

 

and my second question is if the torque converter went out do i need to take apart my tranny and clean it out, or will a filter swap about do it.

oh yea it has a 350ci if that makes any difference
