my seatbelt squeaks

I really don't want to waste anyone's time but I just have a quick question. The seatbelt roller buried in my Drivers seat is squeaking constantly. I tried to spray some lube in there without staining the upholstery but it hasn't worked. I was wondering if there is a way to safely take off that plastic collar around the seat belt so I can actually see where I am spraying. I tried a little force hoping it would pop out of the backrest but I got the feeling that I might break it. The vehicle is a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup. Thanks in advance.
