Snow Plows...who's got em and how much?

I'm looking to get one, maybe not this season but next and so far I've seen them in the $3,000 range plus $450 or so to install them.  This is for a Western 9' Pro setup.

Is this a safe ballpark?

be careful. I installed a 9' Diamond plow on my 2500 HD (2001) and it made th efront end sag so bad that I could not drive the truck with the plow up because it was only 3" off the ground. A set of Timbren helper springs on the front helped a LOT.

CMNT,  Where are you at ?  Man that is cheap.

Around Syracuse NY a 8 ft western pro is $3500

installed....I went to a snow plow BBQ last

week in poughkeepsie NY and they had a

special around $3000...Will be heading back

there this week for install to save that $$$$$

If you are a plow head check out:

www.plowsite.com

There are a bunch of plowheads over there to

help u out..Pray 4 snow !!!.............Geo

Hey Flyin,  Did u ever consider cranking up

the torsion bars ?  Glad to hear those timbrens

are working out...Will see how mine works out

when they strap on the new plow this week !

Good advice on the front springs.  I personally think our front ends sit too low compared to ford's and Dodge's due to the IFS.  I can see a plow only exaggerating that.  I'd turn up the torsion bars, but I hate hearing them creak.  :D

Sonjaab, I'm in the Chicago area.  I inquired at a local plow place that I have had hitches installed at before.

I'm not a die hard plower perse, just that I get tired of spending two hours out in the driveway (which is at the "T" of an alley) chomping through the rest of the alley's piled up snow which gets dumped in our drive as the city plow turns.

I've asked the guy and finally yelled at the guy (while I'm out there) NOT to turn and dump it in our driveway but rather just drive ahead and push it into our dead willow tree stump.

Going through two or three shear pins each time ain't no fun either!!!   :sneek:

I'm going to be having an 8.5 foot Fisher V-Plow installed on my truck when it gets here. the price wil be $3800 installed. Sounds like you are getting a very good deal..

Hey guys, If you live in the midwest and

are handy with a wrench check out :

www.centralparts.com

They sell all brands of plows at real good

prices.  But the shipping to NY kills the

price advantage for me...............Geo

I had found a place in New Hampshire online that had the Fisher V-Plow for $3400 but I would have had to drive there to get it and install it myself... I figured that for $400 I may as well let the dealer install it... The fact that there's no sales tax in NH would have made it even sweeter...

So how do these Timbren helper springs work?  They seem like the way to go when you have a plow on the front.  I've had thoughts about getting a smaller plow when I get a new truck, just to clear out stuff for family and friends.  I'd look for something that is easily removed as well, so I could take it off for summer and not even be able to tell it was there.  Thats a ways down the road though.  LOL

I've always liked Fisher and the minute mount system will leave the tuck looking almost stock when it's removed. I would guess that all modern plows are the same way though. At least all the ones I've seen the head gear comes off with the plow.

The timbren springs are a snap to install and don't change the ride height at all witout a load on the fromt so there is no reason to remove them after snow season..

Yes that would be my second change if the helper springs did not raise the front enough. Did not have to tho and would rather not if I did not have too..

Wolfie,  remember western and fisher are

the same company.....the plows are pretty

much the same side by side except the fisher

has a trip edge blade and western is a full trip

edge.....I guess i will go with a western again

cheaper than fisher and I have plenty of spare

parts and plenty of repair experience at 4 am

in the dark and in a snowstorm !!!!!!!! LOL
