Exhaust Question - Muffler

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2006 GMC Sierra z71 and was wondering since the exhaust is stainless, has anyone just replaced the muffler? I'm leaning towards a Borla muffler...I've had them in the past and love them....

If someone has replaced their muffler, I'd like the specifics...size, tube width, etc...

Had a dynomax turbo 3" in out put on my 2006 that had to be put in at an angle to fit. sounded great at hwy speeds little to mutch drone for me in town driving. ended up going with a gibson cat back. the borla should work fine. stock pipe is

2 3/4". make sure you get the correct in/out and width so it will fit.

Same as above...replaced just my muffler with a DynoMax super turbo muffler. Muffler was about 14" long. Sounded good on the highway but droned too much in the cab especially around town. So I took it off and put my factory muffler back on. I need to update my sig.

You might as well go with a full cat back exhaust.

P.S.-people aren't so fond of that guy that only replaces muffler- does nothing for you

wrong, as usual. about 85% of gains realized with a quality aftermarket cat back system are directly related to the muffler replacement, as that is where almost all the restriction is (we're still only talking about behind the cats) on an l33 motor. mandrel bending is negligebly significant since the factory bends are dam near mandrel to start with.

Go with the Gibson muffler. If you want you can have it clamped in with stainless clamps so that you don't have to worry about the welds rusting through. Summit has a good variety. On my last truck I bought the biggest Gibson that would fit and I was happy.
