on my 06, I didn't remove the gas tank i just moved it so I can access the nuts and bolts you use to bolt the new shackle on the frame. Didn't disconnect it just slide it to the middle of the truck.

How much did you lower it??? Did you only lower the rear to level it out?

I want to drop the rear but not sure yet if I want to do the front also... I know I want the truck to sit level.. But the amount of drop will depand on which wheels I buy and how they look with a stock front ride height...

a 3/4, 3/5 drop will sit pretty even. At the front lowering it 3 inches will give u about 1 inch from ur wheel to the finder wheel.

The only reason I had go move the gas tank is so that I could access the nuts to tighten them up. I put blocks of wood about 2 inches under the tank. took off the straps and let the tank rest on the wood. Then pushed the tank over just enough to gain access to the inside of the frame so I could tighten the nut and bolts. I can't remember if i needed to unbolt the fuel line hanger on the frame but I didn't disconnect any fuel lines.

I have a 2inch front spindle and 4 inch hanger and shackle rear.

Sorry to hijack this old post fella's but I can't post a new topic until I post 5 replies to existing topics.

I have a 2007 Silverado nbs 2wd crew cab that I want to lower either 2" in the rear (with shackles) to level it out or possibly 2" front and rear. It's not necessarily the rake that I don't like, it's the ginourmous gap between the top of the tires and the fender.

Can this be done without any affect to the warranty? Thanks.

how do i remove the gas tank to put on shackles on a 2005 chevy silverado 1500 single cab? or to just remove the gas tank?

Steven , unless you are putting on hangers i don't think the gas tank has to be moved. the shackles are at the rear of the leaf springs. just incase though there is two bolts that hold the strap on take them out and remove straps, disconnect the gas fill opening by the gas cap and the tank should be able to move a little without disconnecting anything else. make sure you support the tank evenly before loosening the bolts. lol, JD

Thanks Blkshadow, for Steven23, I think.

Sorry, He may already have his answer, this thread was started last year. I was trying to get some info on a new 2007 NBS Crew Cab, 2wd. I wanted to know how lowering my new truck would affect the warranty. I can't post a new topic until I have 5 replies. I think I'm close with this one, but....

I'm not crazy about the stink bug look, I'm looking at an eight" + gap from the top of the tires to the bottom of the fenders in the rear. This is with the factory 20" wheels. Can I drop it 2" with shackles without voiding the warranty?

I might even want to do a 2/3" or 2/4" drop. I just don't want to screw up the factory warranty. My wife will kill me if, after spending 33+ large for the truck, I lower it and something goes wrong, it won't be fixed (without me spending EVEN more).

It was actually in the shop the day after I took delivery with a "service air bag" warning. They replaced the actuator for one of the bags. I dropped it off and they wouldn't give it back until it was fixed due to safety reasons. I understand that part.

I'm just not happy with the stance. Can it be done?

Thanks again...and again, I'm sorry about hijacking this thread. :banghead:

Im pretty sure that you can lower the front 2 or raise the front 2 without voiding warranty. I was at my dealership a few days ago just asking what they can do for me and the guy in charge of parts and stuff told me that they would lower it with shackles for me for about $90 or raise the front for around $200 and it would still be under warranty.

when i bought my truck i told them what my plans for the truck was. This is what i asked, I am going to drop the truck put intake, headers, rims tires and cat back exaust will it affect my warranty? They said no. I have only taken the truck back for one warranty job and that was to replace the battery. Hope this helps. I would just ask them to make sure. I am pretty sure that there is a law about this. I think i remeber reading about it somewhere.

I have a 2007 nbs as well, have new wheels and tires and dont like the rake look even more with my new set. I plan to drop the rear at least 2". Truck cost me 33g's as well. I found some shackles powder coated black and under $50. going to do this real soon. Just got my fiberglass tonneau from leer. Looks great. Gool luck.
