Hey guys, I want to fatmat the interrior of my truck to get rid of a lot of road noise. I've got 40 series flowmasters w/ turndowns and they are getting pretty obnoxious. Only thing is it would cost me 190 to get em put out the back. Or 80 for fatmat. So the fatmat wins, plus I love the sound on the outside of those turndowns. My question is how do I get the carpet back out, and back in properly? Secondly, I've replaced all my speakers, but the rear seat on the drivers side (ext cab 1500) and need to know how to take that cover off to get to that speaker to replace it. any help is welcomed.

My suggestion would be to run the pipes on out before you do anything else. Not trying to tend to your business but from what I know, the exhaust trapped under your truck will cause you some real corrosion and rust problems down the road.

Thats my opinion also.. run them out the back..it will eventually cause rust..

I've heard a lot of different opinions on this, when I first got them. Some people believe they dont cause rust, other people believe strongly in corrosion. I haven't seen any problems with mine yet other than the fact they are excessively noisy. I plan on running them out the back in the future, but at this point, not yet. Any tips on the interrior?

fatmat will not do much for exhaust noise and for $80 you must not be getting a whole lot....I dynomated my back wall and up the back pillars and back floor in my regular cab and it had to cost at least $130 for 36sq feet off ebay and thats only 1 layer. I lowered the road noise back there but i did it to keep sound in for my kicker 15 L7. You would have to do many layers and even then itd just be better to extend the exhaust unless your gonna make a bumpin stereo system. Well keep this in mind i read on the dynamat website that they put a layer of it in a whole truck with a turbo diesel engine and it lowered the noise from outside 20db or so...who knows how many layers but it was over a grand to do.

for 80 bucks its 50 square feet, thats shipped. I could bump it up to 100 square feet for a lil more than 100 bucks. 2 or three layers behind the back seat and possibly 2 layers on the floor would reduce exponential amounts of road noise. Here's another thought. even if I put the pipes out the back, I would still have a good hum in the cab bouncing around. I am also putting an Alpine 10" back there.

M3, there may be many opinions on the pipes under the truck but if you plan to keep it for several years, you will begin to see some rust under the truck. While you are driving, most of the gases get out from under the truck, but when travleing at slow speeds or at idle, the gases are trapped under the truck and will eventually make a mess.

I know that the truck will eventually rust out. I'm asking how to pull the carpet out. I found how to pull out my console, two front seats, and back seat, but I just need to know any precautions to pull out the carpet. Like I said before I am just getting the road noise down, and this summer the pipes will be put out the back. I'm not worried about the rust right now, I haven't had the exhaust for more than 6 months.

Can anyone tell me how to get the plastic trim off behind the drivers seat to get to the speaker there? I can't get to it for some reason. Any pics or anything?

I think this has a lot to do with his location.

I've almost always dumped my exhaust over the axle, and have never had problem one with rust. This is living in California, then Colorado, then Oklahoma.

If it's an extended cab truck you're going to have to remove the rear door panels to replace the speakers. I changed all of the gear in my 02 this past summer and removing most of the interior pieces is fairly easy.

It is an extended cab. I tried to pull off the door panels but couldn't figure out how behind the drivers seat. Any hidden screws or is it all just pulled off with a flathead?

There should be two screws that you have to remove. One in the drink holder and the other in the door pull. Remove the panel from around the door handle (if it's a 4 door). Other than that just use something flat to pry the panel away from the door. A $20 Chilton's will give you all the instructions for removing most of the interior panels.
