2003 Silverado 1500 Speedometer Problems!

Recommended Posts

We are having trouble with the Speedometer on our 2003 Silverado 1500. It is pegged at 120 and won't move. Everything else, including the odometer is working fine. Any suggestions?? Is there a fuse to check??

Had this exact problem happen in my '04. They had to replace the cluster. A Remanufactured unit of course. It was under warranty so no cost to me.

My issued 2004 Yukon had the same problem, you need a cluster. Funny thing with mine is I took it in to the dealer and they hooked it to the computer and "diagnosed" the problem. Told me it would be a while for the part to come in. 8 weeks later it finally comes in. They install it and everything seems fine until I notice I'm missing 5500 miles on the odometer. Apparently the odometer was reset by the computer to the day they diagnosed it and they cannot change it.

I seem to never get flukes like that to happen to my personal vehicles.

Dont know if yours is still under warranty but if it is take it in before its to late. On my 2001 cluster the tachometer works when it feels like it. My local dealer wants to sell me a new cluster at the tune of 400.00..think I will just deal with it a while

You can get a new cluster all day long for about $200. Just check eBay, there's a bunch of dealers that sell new clusters on there.

I had mine changed because the speedo refuse to read over 60 mph, but the new cluster keeps resetting the hours accrued. Had another one installed and the same thing happened, this time the dealer gave me a TSB that said that there is no repair available at this time and just leave the cluster in the vehicle. The correct hours are mantainted in the BCM.

You oughta check on ebay. I have seen clusters on there for pretty cheap (or cheaper anyway).

Why would any of you consider paying out of pocket for a huge design flaw that Gm made, Ill be damned if I am going to shell out 400$ for a 3 year old truck with 65,000 miles on it to get a new speedo. I am calling Gm and they are going to fix it for nothing. Do a google search on this the problem, it is huge and GM is scared sh**less and wont issue a recall. I have been on the phone with GM and am slowly working my way up to the higher ups. I currently own five GM trucks and If the problem is not fixed I wont do business with them ever again. Between the speedo breaking, a rough idle with constant stalling and a passenger door that has to be slammed shut, I would say that I havent got my 32,000$ worth. I am pissed.....................
