I am thinking about this truck for my next purchase, and see this truck on the website but have not seen it in person. Its basically the fully loaded 1500 crew. Options are z71, LTZ, 6.0 vortec max with nav and the optional black out grill.

Thanks

There was one on ebay a week ago, had tons of pictures, looks just like any other silverado except for the badging. I got mine ordered and coming. Can't wait.

Is that the VortecMax? What kind/size of tire and wheels are did you get? Does the Z71 with the 6.0L have the Max badge or the silverado one on the doors?? My truck will be in this week. Your truck looks great.

It will have the "VortecMax" badge on it,We have one sitting on our lot right now,Its a crew-cab Z71 with the 6.0 ordered as a separate option.

The 6-liter (RPO Code L76) is the "VortecMax" Engine,Not the 4.8 or 5.3.

Its available as either a separate option by itself or as part of the "Max Trailering Package",which is RPO code NHT.

MS3DALE,

Could you please elaborate a bit more on the "VortecMax" option and the "Max Trailering Package" option? What all do these options increase directly relating to towing? I am in the market for a new truck next summer and want to weight out the +'s & -'s of the 3/4 ton Duramax crew cab & the 1/2 ton crew cab. I will be towing an enclosed 24ft. trailer(8000 lbs. loaded) that has a lot of wind resistance(8'10" high) across the plains states and into the Rocky mountains. I know for fact that the Duramax 3/4 ton will get the job done but certainly wouldn't mind saving the $7000.00 if Chevy is offering something more capable in the 1/2 ton trucks in 2007.

Thanks,

-John

I'll try to explain this so its not so confusing...

On the '07 "GMT900" 1/2-ton trucks you can get the "VortecMax" 6-liter (RPO L76) two ways,Either as a seperate option on the crew-cabs and ext.cabs (short or standard length bed) or its comes as part of the "Max Trailering Package" (RPO NHT) available on crew-cabs and ext.cab (standard length bed only)

When you spec it out as a seperate option you get the "L76" 6-liter along with the "M70" 4L70E "Super-Duty" transmission and the 9.5" rear-end with 3.73 rear-end gears and you can still get the Z71 package or the Z60 suspension with 20" wheels.

When you spec out the "NHT" Max Trailering Pkg. it also comes with "L76" 6-liter,"M70" 4L70E transmission and the 9.5" rear-end,but it also includes the "G80" locking diff. w/4.10 gears in the 4x4 models (3.73 gears in 2wd models) it also comes with the autotrac transfer case on 4wd models, fog lamps,"Z82" trailering pkg.,"Z85" handling/trailering suspension,H.D. rear springs and a bigger front sway bar,This package increases towing capacity up to 10,500lbs.

Also 17" wheels are the only wheel size available with the "NHT" Max Pkg.

You'll notice the biggest difference between the two is the fact that with the "NHT" pkg. it comes with 4.10 gears in 4wd models, this is where they get the 10,500lb. towing capacity,If you get the 6-liter as a seperate option you can only get 3.73 gears which is limited to an 8,500lb. towing capacity.

Also on the rear-end,If you get a crew-cab it will have rear disc brakes because stabilitrak is standard on all crew-cab models, however on ext-cab models drum brakes are std. unless you order the stabilitrak option seperately or the "NHT" pkg. which includes stabilitrak as part of the pkg.

Hope this wasn't too confusing and I hope it helps,I'm still trying to learn all the stuff out on these new trucks and I'm watching all the videos and taking all the tests available to me from GM on their training website.

Heck I just learned a couple of weeks ago that the 6-liter was available as a seperate option, which is nice for me because I want it but also want the Z71 pkg with the 18" wheels and 3.73 gears (I don't like any of the 17" wheels available and 4.10 gears are a little too steep for me!)

Thanks for explaining Rich. Makes perfect sense & sounds like you are learning very quickly! :banghead:

John, not sure if this will help or not, I'll probably just confuse you more, but here it is: I also tow 8-9K part-time. I've done it with a 6.0-4:10 and it struggled badly on the interstate hills in NJ-PA-NY, enough to scare me with my family in back getting passed by freight trains of Semi's. I also own a 8.1-burb that performed very well and a ton better than the 6.0, to be expected. I needed to replace the 6.0 truck and was waiting for the 8.1 to come out in the new HD's but it isn't so I was left with a choice, new 6.0Max or left-over classic 8.1HD? With constant memories of my 6.0 'in-the-mountains nightmare' i decided to go with the left-over 8.1HD. Now here's the other part: the 8.1HD tows like a dream, but I also daily drive it, and it rides far worse than the 1500. So there's the trade-off (for me), deal with the 6.0 struggling 15 weekends a year and get a good ride the rest, or have a great tower but deal with the worse ride. Tough call. I would love GM to come out with 1500 that tows 10K better than the 6.0. Would love to see the 6.2-6sp(417 ft-lbs, not bad) in a pick-up, and think it would be the cats-a** for us towers, but it's not available, at least yet its not. If they do it I will buy it.

Really dumb question, what would the MPG difference be between 3.73 and 4.10's?

I dont plan to tow more than 7k or so, but I think I would prefer the extra pull while my wife (being an engineer) is talking about 3 more MPG while driving.

I'm also interested in the mileage of the 4.10. I don't know if anybody has a new edition of truckin, but they did a comparison between the new gmc with v-max, new silverado 5.3, titan, king ranch f-150, and the hemi ram sport. Long story short the gm's dominated. What caught my attention most was they reported the v-max managed better mpg than the hemi and f-150 like 14.something mpg, and it killed the titan badddddddddd, got like 10.something mpg which sucks bad.. I'm hoping there tester had the 4.10 gears like mine will have. Does anybody know if you get the 6.0 without the max trailering package which includes the 4.10 if it includes the v-max sticker on the side. I saw a listing on ebay which claims to have the 6.0 option but it dosen't have the v-max badges, and i know on the "max trailering package" in the description it includes"g-80locker, HD tranny, 9.5 rear axle, and the v-max badges"

Also on another note, I still have a 2000 gmc 3/4 with the lq4 6.0 and it seems to have more low end grunt than my 03 ss did, does anybody know why this would be.

Basically Im getting a Z71 Crew and am debating about the Max-Trailering package. I believe its a good thing to have, the spousal unit thinks we wont own anything that heavy and wants the better mileage of the 3.73.

On top of it, I think the 6.0 will pull better cause the 4.10's will keep the revs up.

Whats the big difference between the limited slip in the 3.73 (G80) versus the 4.10 ( RPO listed as G80 with AXN 9.5" hybrid rear axle)?

I also hate you cant get the 20 in wheels with the MAX Towing package :banghead:
