WTB Trailer Brake Harness Pigtail

I have a 2005 GMC Sierra with the towing package. I'm looking for the little wiring harness (pigtail) that comes in the glovebox that allows you to install a trailer brake controller. I bought my truck used & the previous owner couldn't find his.

Many of you won't be installing trailer brakes & so won't need this pigtail. I need to tow a heavier trailer & need to install my trailer brake controller.

Thanks!

A lot of brake controllers may come with a custom harness for a vehicle. I'm in the process of getting a brake controller now and if it does have everything I need to hook up I'll let you get my GM harness cheap.

Cool - thanks. There's one on eBay for a Buy It Now price of $10 & $7 shipping - not sure if that's the same one though...???

BTW, which brake controller are you getting? I had a Jordan Ultima 2020 on my Ford, and it was really good - true proportional (used a cable to detect the deflection in your brake pedal) I've since heard there was one that tapped into your brake's hydraulics to sense actual brake fluid pressure (then send an electrical signal to the trailer brakes). I've heard good things about that one, but can't find the name right now.

I'm looking at getting a Teknosha (or whatever) Prodigy controller. I don't have any trailers that have brakes but since I have a heavy duty truck now I want to be prepared for when I do encounter one.

Do some research before you buy that one. There are several 'classes' of brake controllers. What you want is one that applies the trailer brakes directly proportional to the truck brakes - no more & no less.

I've looked into the design of various ones & the only ones I'm satisfied with are the Jordan & the BrakeSmart. I've had a Jordan & loved it. I was looking into the BrakeSmart, but it's like 4X the price!! (But that's the one that senses truck hydraulic brake fluid pressure & applies trailer brakes to match)

The Ford Powerstroke Forums have a "towing and hauling" section I used to hang out on & get some good advice from folks with a lot more towing experience than I had: www.thedieselstop.com

Good luck.

Jeff
