1999 K2500 Suburban upgrades

I have a 1999 K2500 Suburban with the 5.7 engine and want to Know if the newer engines respond to things like msd boxes, roller rocker arms, bigger throttle bodies, cat back exhaust, air intakes, and headers. They all have big claims to power and mpg but I never see results posted from companies with this engine.

Are engines tuned so well now days they only need computer tuning or is there more to gain?

Any thoughts or experience would help. Thanks

All engines respond to those items in some degree. To keep it simple and get your biggest bang for the buck, I'd stick with a good aftermarket intake and cat-back system and see how you like it. There is a ton of info on this board on what folks like and don't like.

A good computer tune can really help, as well, to get more out of your 'burban. It is good to have a skeptical approach to horsepower claims, as most of them have horse**it as a component. Before you start improving, get on a dyno and see how much HP and torque you have now, and track what you get with the changes. The numbers don't lie.

If you need more power, a well planned upgrade sequence can get you more, but have a plan and decide how much money you want to spend for it. Most of us, I think, have a plan, but spend too much anyway :D

Start by getting more air in and more exhaust out and you can't go too far wrong, IMHO.

My $0.02
