03 GMC Sierra 1500 - My horn started going off by itself a couple days ago. It was very cold out (single digits) and it did it whenever I would turn the steering wheel. I'm guessing its a wiring issue in the steering column. I pulled the fuse for now. I was just curious, before I tear it apart, if anybody else has had a simiular problem. Any thoughts would be great.

I've never heard of anything like this. Stealership might have an idea. You still under warranty??

im new to chevy but jeeps have something called a clockspring behind the wheel which hooks the horn button to the stalk but still allows steering wheel travel, maybe that has gone bad.

I'll have to give that a look, if I can't figure anything easy out, I still got warrenty.

Just do yourself a favor. Disconnect the battery before you dig into the steering wheel. Airbags have a way of going off.

My horn on my 2000 GMC Serria is doing the same thing. It did it once about (2) months ago when it was cold so I unhooked the battery. The next morning when the I reattached the battery the problem didn't come back.... until tonight.

 

Did you ever figure out what was causing your problem? Any help would be appreciated since my truck is out of warranty so I have to try and fix it myself.

Sounds like apossible short in the contacts.

Our 2001 olds minivan has done that a few times. Once I was pulling out of the church parking lot and it did a quick honk and i just had to smile and wave to everyone.
